New document: “Pastoral Orientations on Internally Displaced People”

Vatican City, 5 May 2020 – The new document “Pastoral Orientations on Internally Displaced People” by the Migrants and Refugees Section was presented at a press conference live streamed from the Sala Marconi of Palazzo Pio. Card. Michael Czerny S.I. and Father Fabio Baggio C.S., undersecretaries of the M&R Section, and Dr. Amaya Valcárcel, International Advocacy Coordinator of the Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS), were speaking.

Internal displacement is also the theme chosen by Pope Francis for the World Day of Migrants and Refugees 2020.

“The Pastoral Orientations on Internally Displaced People want today’s more than 50 million IDPs to be recognized and supported, promoted and eventually re-integrated, so that they can play an active, constructive role in their country even if powerful causes, both natural and unjust human causes, have forced them to flee from home and take refuge somewhere else. In the post-COVID-19 world that is emerging, their contribution will be very much needed” said Cardinal Czerny.

The document can be downloaded in different languages and formats as of today from the new page dedicated to Internally Displaced People on our website.
