“Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.”
(Hebrew 13:2)
On the occasion of the 105th World Day of Migrants and Refugees, September 29, 2019, Pope Francis unveiled a bronze and clay sculpture by the Canadian artist Timothy Schmalz, Angels Unawares.
Before blessing it, the Holy Father explained: “The work depicts a group of migrants from various cultures and different historical periods. I wanted it here in St. Peter’s Square, so that it would remind everyone of the evangelical challenge of welcoming”.
