“Vulnerable Migrants”, a priority for the Church

The 8th World Social Forum on Migrations 2018 in Mexico City from 2nd to the 4th of November

The Forum, established in Porto Alegre in January 2001, represented an opportunity to reflect and discuss on effective actions to build a global society directed towards fruitful relationships among people in the respect of human rights. The Forum aims to seek and build just societies, especially mindful of the needs of the most vulnerable, towards a more united world. H.E. Card. Carlos Aguiar Retes, Archbishop of Mexico City, and H.E. Archbishop Franco Coppola, Apostolic Nuncio in Mexico, attended the opening ceremony.

Fr Michael Czerny S.J., Undersecretary of the Migrants and Refugees Section of the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development will also attend the Forum. His speech promotes a Christian approach towards migrants, based on Pope Francis’ teachings and the four verbs: to welcome, to protect, to promote, to integrate; avoiding any political or ideological misuse of the needs of those who, for various reasons, leave their countries.

Fr. Michael also delivered a greeting from the Holy Father.
